Best Buy Scholarship Program
The Best Buy Children’s Foundation is offering 1,200 scholarships of $1,000 each to high school students. Called the Best Buy Scholarship Program, it is designed to award students in grades 9-12 who plan to attend post-secondary education, have solid grades and are involved in community service or work experience.
Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference
The Al Neuharth Free Spirit Scholarship is awarded at an annual conference at the Newseum in Washington D.C. One student from each state and the District of Columbia will be selected to participate in this five-day, all-expenses paid event held in mid-July.
To apply, you must complete two essays 500 word essays. In them you must why you want to pursue a career in journalism; and what characteristics make them a “free spirit.”
National FFA Organization Scholarships
The National FFA Organization was originally called Future Farmers of America and many of the scholarships they offer are agriculture related. However, there are some scholarships that are very broad.
The ACT High School Poster Concept Contest
The ACT Poster Contest will not be offered during the 2014-15 school year.
The ACT High School Poster Concept Contest asks you to create a poster answering the question, "Why Take the ACT?" promoting the theme of attending college and taking the ACT as the college entrance exam of choice.

The Ron Brown Scholar Program is a $40,000 ($10,000 per year for 4 years) grant to an African-American high school senior who excels academically, exhibits exceptional leadership potential and participates in community service activities.
