The goal of the National Federation of the Blind Scholarship Program is to recognize achievement by blind scholars. Thirty national scholarships worth from $3,000 to $12,000 are awarded annually.

2016 West Point Bridge Design Contest

How would you like to download software that allows you to learn about bridge building and earn money to pay for college at the same time? The 2016 West Point Bridge Design Contest is designed to provide middle school and high school students with an introduction to engineering.

The contest is broken up into three “Qualifying Round”, running from January 12, 2016 to 1:00 p.m. EST on April 22, 2016.

Students may compete individually or in teams of two members. Competing in teams of two is strongly encouraged.

MathMovesU Middle School Scholarship

To compete in the MathMovesU Middle School Scholarship, Middle School students are invited to answer the question: “Math is in the world all around us. Morning, noon, and night - how does math move you or the world around you?” You respond by submitting a PowerPoint submission.

Not only can students win awards, but their school can receive a matching grant of $1,000 to be used for math-related programs.

The Poetry Out Loud Recitation Contest is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and The Poetry Foundation. The contest features a list of about 600 poems for students to choose from. The student must enter a local competition before they can move on to the state competitions. State level competitions are in late February and March.

 

Better Together STEM Scholarships

The Better Together STEM Scholarships (formerly known as the PG&E Bright Minds Scholarships) is available to high school seniors and college students living in the PG&E service area. 

PG&E will award ten scholarships of up to $20,000 per year for up to five years, and 90 one-time $2,000 scholarships.

The factors used to determine the recipients include: demonstration of community leadership, personal triumph, financial need and academic achievement.

Davidson Fellows Scholarship

Are you passionate about a subject area? Do you have an idea that will have a considerable impact on a field? Are you working on an innovative solution to major problem? If so the Davidson Fellows Scholarship awards may be for you. They award $50,000, $25,000 and $10,000 scholarships to extraordinary young people, 18 and under, who have completed a significant piece of work.

NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing

Winning students and their schools receive certificates recognizing their accomplishment and the names of the students and their schools are posted on the NCTE website.

The National Council of Teachers of English gives out the Achievement Awards in Writing to high school juniors. The award is in recognition of excellence in writing. Winners demonstrate writing ability in two forms: first, in a sample of their best writing,  a themed essay on a subject set by the Achievement Awards Advisory Committee and responded to by all candidates for the award in that year.
