The Fleet Reserve Association Essay Contest asks 7th through 12th grade students to write an essay up to 350 words on a different topic every year. The best essay will get a prize of $5,000 with additional prizes of $2,500 for first place, $1,500 for second place, and $1,000 for third place in grades seven through twelve. Each winners will receive an attractive plaque citing his or her achievement. Every entrant judged at the national level receives a certificate of recognition. Other prizes are awarded at the branch and regional levels.

In order to participate, you must be sponsored by an FRA branch, see their website to find a branch that’s nearest to you.

This year’s essay topic is: “What the United States Flag Stands For”

Entries sponsored by branch or unit members must be submitted to their respective Branch Americanism Chairman by 1st December, for judging at the branch level. The awards are presented by the end of May.
