National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) offers the following awards for to honor Hispanic nurses for their work: Ildaura Murillo-Rohde Award for Education Excellence, the Henrietta Villaescusa Community Service Award, the Janie Menchaca Wilson Leadership Award, and the Sarah Gomez Erlach Humanitarian Award. Deadline: Early April.

Valley Press Club

Some people wonder why total strangers would give them money to go to college.  The Valley Press Club Scholarships may help you understand that a little better. 

Almost 50 years ago, the Valley Press Club gave their first scholarship to a budding journalist named Al Jaffe.  Over time he became the vice president of ESPN and this year he is funding one of Valley Press Club’s scholarships. 

Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation Scholarship

Five $2500 scholarships will be awarded to high school senior by Rockland Trust.  The students must be residents of Plymouth County, Barnstable County, Bristol County or the towns of Cohasset, Stoughton, Randolph, Braintree, Weymouth, Quincy, Wellesley or Watertown in Massachusetts in order to be eligible.

The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts Scholarships

National Scholarships

Credit Union Scholarship

Credit Unions all over the country are offering high school students scholarships.  Because there are hundreds of credit unions and because their guidelines vary from one to the next here are some of the basics.  Most Credit Union Scholarships are for high school seniors with application deadlines in March.  The number and amount of scholarships vary.  In addition, there are other requirements like membership (it's not hard to do, just open an account), most require it, but not all.  Below is a listing of just of few of the credit unions that offer scholarships.

GEAR UP Scholarships

The GEAR UP program provides grants to local governments, some of the funds are also used to provide college scholarships to low-income students.  The program is a Federal discretionary grant program whose purpose is to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.  GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) serves students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follows them through high school.
